Since both the causes and symptoms are very similar, how does one know the difference, much less balance them? Now days, with all of the extra stress in daily life between your job, kids and family, gas prices and just day to day living, how can you tell if you are having an anxiety attack, symptoms of Irritable Bowel Symptom (IBS), or something even more serious and should seek medical advice?

Everyone experiences stress, anxiety and fear at some point in their lifetime, but at some point a professional opinion is not only warranted, but also wise. Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or better known as anxiety attacks or panic attacks, is an incredibly common disorder that affects more than 6,8 million people. The signs and symptoms can affect all aspects of your life and can be debilitating at times. Although there is strong research and evidence most things we experience both physically and mentally are the direct result in our own focus and thought. However, when the symptoms reach levels that are uncontrollable and unacceptable, an outside resource may be the answer.

Irritable bowel syndrome is characterized by a group of symptoms in which abdominal pain or discomfort is associated with a change in bowel pattern, such as loose or more frequent bowel movements or diarrhea, and/or hard or less frequent bowel movements or constipation. The main triggers of Irritable Bowel Symptom (IBS) include caffeine, alcohol, nicotine and mainly stress. These vary from individual, but the physical “attacks” can be very uncomfortable and frequent. Thus, the very thought of an impeding IBS attack causes even more stress and possible triggering an anxiety attack.

After three different doctors, granted with different specialties and backgrounds, I now had three completely different diagnosis and therefore different opinions and treatments to research. One simply told me to change my diet and sleeping patterns. This I was used to as a long time sufferer of IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). I tried several variations on my diet and behaviors including caffeine, alcohol, sugar and smoking. As usually an abundance of anything in life is going to have a negative reaction there my symptoms did change but did not solve the problem as a whole. The second opinion leaned towards severe depression and wanted to go the route of several medications. One may not be inclined to add any prescriptions to your daily regiment if there is a remote possibility that they are unnecessary, or the wrong type and dosage which results in an adverse reaction to that is worse than the original symptoms themselves.

The last physician suggested that a more holistic approach, which sounded like a much more solid and safe alternative. Over the past 5 months I have learned to love herbal tea again, have tried some traditional meditation, along with a couple of techniques I learned from Joe Barry who developed a program for controlling anxiety attacks. I have had quite a bit of success in controlling not only the number of anxiety attacks and episodes, but have managed to balance my IBS symptoms in the process.

Could I be pregnant? Any advice?

Question by pinkelephant_8546: Could I be pregnant? Any advice?
I’m a week passed the visit from AF and I’ve several pregnancy symptoms (no period, moody, unnatural bowel movements, etc). I bought a pt from the store and took it as soon as I got home. It was negative. I know I shouldve waited til the next morning to take the test, however, I had a miscarriage two months ago, so I was excited about another baby. I live in Arizona & it’s 115 degrees outside so I’ve been drinking a lot of h2o. Could the test be wrong? Any suggestions?

Summary:Wheat is a major component of diets, worldwide. It presence in a wide range of food and food products in particular bread, cakes, pasta, and other bakery products has been suspected in the development of celiac disease. Review of the current literature revealed that celiac disease is triggered by several factors, namely, genetic predisposition to gliadin, and environmental factors such as stress and viral agents. It therefore possible that individuals who are genetically prone as well as those individuals who are not to develop celiac diseased condition when wheat containing gliadin is consumed. It is further suggested that consuming gliadin before the full development of the gut-protective-barrier, before three months in infants, is critical in determining whether the disease will appear in adulthood. Treatment involves making live style changes and the avoidance of gliadin and glutenin in the diet. Early diagnosis is critical in the treatment of celiac disease.

Key words: gliadin, glutenin, celiac disease, autoimmune response

Introduction:Wheat is present in a wide range of food and food products. The main proteins found in wheat are gliadin and glutenin. These proteins are not unique to wheat, but are also found in rye and barley. The reported presence of gliadin and glutenin in maize, rice and oats is probably due to pre- or post-harvest contamination. These grains do not contain glutenin and gliadin.

The use of wheat, rye and barley in the diet worldwide may cause autoimmune reactions and diseases in genetically predisposed individuals when consumed. Celiac disease is believed to be one of the most commonly under diagnosed diseases in many countries.

The prevalence of celiac disease in population studies from Europe, USA, and South America is between 0.33 to 1.06% in children and 0.18-1.2% in adults. Since the prevalence of celiac disease seems to be similar in childhood and adulthood, this may suggest that the principal trigger may occur in early life. The present paper reviews the current literature with the aim of determining whether bread or wheat consumption can cause or trigger celiac disease.

What is celiac disease?Celiac disease is caused by an abnormal reaction to gliadin, a gluten protein found in wheat, rye and barley. Gliadin belongs to a group of proteins called prolamins. These prolamins are rich in amino acids proline and glutamine.

Why is there an abnormal reaction to gliadin protein? In genetically predisposed individuals, stressed or viral challenged individuals gliadin reacts with antibodies to tissue transglutaminase causing an inflammatory reaction that leads to flattening of the lining of the small intestine. These physiological, pathological, anatomical and morphological changes lead to decreased surface area for absorption of nutrients.

What are some of the signs & symptoms of celiac disease?Signs and symptoms of celiac disease may vary among patients. The classical triad of symptoms such as weight loss, fat malabsorption and iron deficiency anemia is no longer used as the classical gold standard for diagnosis. Other signs and symptoms that may be considered include diarrhea, stunted growth, psychosocial problems, fatigue, dermatitis herpetiformis, mouth ulcers, osteoporosis, and recurrent fractures.

How is celiac disease diagnosed?* Clinical history.* Blood test.* Endoscopy.* Biopsy.

What factors trigger celiac disease?* Exposure of infants to gluten proteins (gliadin and glutenin) before the first three months.* Genetic risk factors.* Environmental factors including viral infection such as rotavirus and human intestinal adenovirus.* Stress.

What treatments are available to celiac disease patients?* Avoid feeding infants wheat, rye or barley before the age of three months.* Glutein-free diet.* Vitamin D3.* Calcium.* Magnesium.* Enzyme cocktails: prolyl endopeptidases and glutamine-specific cysteine endopeptidase.* Inhibitors of intestinal wall permeability.

Conclusion:* Celiac disease is a disease affecting the small intestine.* Celiac disease may develop in infancy and later manifest itself in adulthood.* Consuming foods rich in gliadin and glutenin can cause celiac disease in susceptible individuals.* Avoidance of glutenin and gliadin rich foods such as bread, pasta, cereals is the only effective treatment for celiac disease.* Avoid feeding infants cereals and foods containing wheat, rye or barley before three months.* Early diagnosis is the key to preventing further damage to the intestine and achieving effective treatment.* Prevention may involve making live style changes by eliminating gliadin and glutenin from the diet.* Experimental treatments currently being explored include supplementing the diet with minerals such as calcium, magnesium, use of enzyme cocktails and the use of intestinal wall permeability inhibitors.

Irregular period, bleeding between periods, brown and black blood, pain and pressure on lower left side HELP?

Question by Christina: Irregular period, bleeding between periods, brown and black blood, pain and pressure on lower left side HELP?
I am 23. I am prone to UTI’s which I have gotten on and off for the past few years. I have also had some ovarian cysts in the past, but usually the doctor says they are very small and shouldn’t be causing much pain. In the past, the pain has always gone away with my period after 1 or 2 cycles. Now this started in June. I had symptoms of what I thought was a UTI. Went to the doctor and got antibiotics. Everything was fine. This probably was a UTI since I didn’t have any problems for a month.
A month later, the symptoms came back, but I had lost my health insurance so I went to someone I know personally that is a doctor and got antibiotics. They didn’t help and the familiar pain started on the lower left side again so I thought I had another cyst. In the past when I had cysts, I had some urinary problems with them. I waited until the end of my cycle, hoping it would go away, like it had before. My period hardly even came! I had light spotting, mostly brown and black. The pain on the left side continued and I had spotting all month. The urinary symptoms subsided. I went to a doctor who did a chlamydia test and pap smear which were both negative for problems. By this time, my period came again and it was super heavy, again very dark blood. I continued to have some spotting after my period should have been over. Then I started experiencing severe pain and bleeding after intercourse. I went to another doc who said I had cervicitis and gave me an antibiotic. She also had me go for an ultrasound which turned out to be negative for any abnormalities as well. The antibiotics seemed to help. But I still have the pressure and sometimes pain on the left side.

Also, I should mention, throughout these past few months I have experienced nausea, mostly just in the beginning, and extreme bloating. I am an avid runner, and for a solid two weeks I felt too sick to run, but now it’s not so bad and I can exercise comfortably. I just got my period again, and it was very, very light, almost non-existent again. I have been taking low birth control pills since I was 16 (7 years). My doctor, upon receiving all these negative test results flat out told me she doesn’t know what’s wrong and that I should have another doctor examine me when the bleeding starts again. Problem is, since she said that, I haven’t had any bleeding, except light spotting from my period! I only tried having intercourse once because I was scared of the pain and bleeding, but it was okay and I didn’t have any problems. I asked if the problem could be intestinal, something putting pressure on my reproductive organs and the doc said no, i would have rectal bleeding or something else. I also have irritable bowel syndrome and started treating that again recently so the bloating has gone down a bit. I’m still having the pressure on the left side, which is almost constant and sometimes painful. And the irregular period are freaking me out. I’ve always been very regular, since I started the pill. I plan to stop the birth control for a month or two to see what happens, at my doctors suggestion.

Any help would be appreciated. This is getting very expensive since I don’t have insurance.
I saw a doctor at planned parenthood for a the pap and chlamydia test. I went to my regular gyno’s office and saw someone there.. not an MD, i think she was a midwife because she was the only person available. they also did a urinalysis which was negative as well.

If it weren’t for your ultrasound I would have suggested either an ectopic pregnancy or ovarian cysts. You didn’t specify what type of doctor you went to, is it an OB/GYN? or a family or general practice physician? If you haven’t seen an OB/GYN you need to see one immediately. There are lots of clinics who have scaling fees if you’re having difficulty paying.

Most Popular Illnesses For Your Animals At Home And Ways You Can Care For Them

Article by Harriett Scess

There are times that when a person obtains a certain sickness, we just tend to treat and so it would easily go away unlike when our own animals have this certain sickness that people just tend to ignore it. If only there was an immediate medical intervention done to these pets, we could have been able to let our pets not become at its worse. The foremost thing that we should think about that whatever illness our animals could have, we will not most likely contract them. It is towards other animals only that these illnesses be contracted by despite the fact that this illness is contagious.

The things you should know for Felis domesticus illnesses:

If there is no proper hygiene practiced for your animal then most likely you would obtain the insects that live on it. There are still other types of illnesses that cannot be contracted by others through contact. Though there are still specific types of illnesses that may be not really harmful but are also only for this certain specific type of species. And when this specific pet of yours that have whiskers on them, when they tend to have colds, you will not contract such.

The Felis domestica are known of by their cleanliness and that they are better at this than several animals. Then it would be concluded that the reason for pets to be in a bad condition is because that owners tend to ignore the manifestations. There are a list below of the different illnesses that the species of Felis domestica would likely have:

The system for breathing are affected: The species of Felis domestica are the same as persons since they also experience to sneeze most of the time and have liquids dripping from their noses. These pets would most likely obtain the symptoms like inflammation around the eyeballs, spike in temperature, fluids dripping from the nose, watery eyes, they become restless and are not able to breathe and eat normally. There would be further development of the illness and the condition would get worse if medical intervention has not been done.

Parasites that are in and out of its body: Infestations of organisms may be found inside and out of these species. These organisms that live outside of a cat’s body are the blood-sucking insects of the order Siphonaptera. These kind of insects are the ones that would cause itchiness and may further cause some more problems when frequently scratched. It is best that as early as possible that you have to seek for treatment for this kind of disease and always keep the cleanliness in our clothing and your body parts as well. The very well-known type of organisms that lodge inside the body of the cat are flatworms and nematodes. This could be only diagnosed through the inspection of the stool. There should be a frequent de-worming of your pets so as to get rid of these organisms.

These are also the well-known diseases that the Felis domestica would have: diseases relating to the system that involves the passage of urine, those that would cause growth of bacteria due to damage on the first line of defense and also fungi-causing diseases. This fungi-causing disease is communicable and persons can contract this disease.

Well-known illnesses that canines can have:

Though you have been keeping your domesticated canine on the go and really fit and healthy, you should not assume that this pet of yours could not contract any disease. Read about dog mange treatment. Your canine can still obtain those several illnesses that are well-known. There are also some kind of canines that they already have in their genes these specific types of diseases that would develop when they get old. Though you may not stop the possibility for your dog to develop such illness that is already in its blood, you can still help it in the illnesses that it can contract from others.
